Instead of a typical Friday Five, today’s will have a theme. Movies, even better, Halloween movies! I give you, my FIVE favorite Halloween movies. It’s simply not October if I haven’t watched all of these following movies at least once! Please note that it was extremely difficult for me to just pick five so I had to pick some runner-ups!
The first Halloween is my number one favorite Halloween movie. Weird, right? This image reminds me exactly of the old beat up copy of this movie on VHS at my parents house. I’m pretty sure my mom took one of my brother’s to see Freddy Krueger when he was like…3. So it’s no surprise that this movie has been played again and again at my parents house as long as I can remember. I remember being in elementary school and being so excited to carve pumpkins, eat my dad’s caramel corn and watch Halloween. It never gets old.
“It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus!” My second favorite Halloween movie. My parents have never had cable so I remember getting to watch Hocus Pocus at one of my friends house. I remember we even downloaded the soundtrack and used to listen to SJP sing “Come Little Children” on repeat. Now, it’s one of the first movies I reach for every year come October.
The first is always the best, and that statement holds true with Halloweentown! Though, I can occasionally enjoy a marathon of watching both, I will always prefer the first. Another movie that was a treat I got to watch at a friends house, Halloweentown is my third favorite Halloween movie because who doesn’t love the story of another world dedicated to Halloween?
Okay, it’s not really a ‘Halloween’ movie, but it’s a classic scary movie! I think what makes ‘The Birds’ so scary is the idea behind it, some common animal just going totally nuts and attacking us all. This is another movie I remember my mom playing on repeat throughout October! I think the scariest part of the whole movie is when all the kids are leaving school and there’s just birds, so many creepy birds everywhere.
Number five on the list is Practical Magic. It’s not even a ‘spooky’ movie but I just can never get enough of it. It’s just such a beautiful movie. Plus, I’m a sucker for romance and anything dealing with witches so it’s a win win!
“Can love really travel back in time and heal a broken heart? Was it our joined hands that finally lifted Maria’s curse? I’d like to think so. But there are some things I know for certain: always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for luck, and fall in love whenever you can.”
A Nightmare Before Christmas
I can’t believe no Zombie movies made this list, but I love Zombie movies year-round! What are your favorite movies to watch in October?
